EVENT RECAPS

A NOTABLE NIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA—
CREATES AN EVENING LIKE NO OTHER

A Notable Night, the Symphony Guild’s signature fundraising event and one of the Piedmont Triad’s premier fall happenings, returned to the beautiful Proximity Hotel on Saturday, November 22, creating an unforgettable evening full of energy and excitement.

Thanks to the efforts of co-chairs Charley Lanza and Sheila Phillips, more than 250 guests were transported on a colorful journey to Rio de Janeiro, a most exotic destination and vibrant city, known for its lively culture, natural beauty and world-class attractions. Under their leadership and with the assistance of an army of dedicated Symphony Guild volunteers, the Proximity was transformed into one of the most electrifying cities on Earth—filled with food, music, entertainment and a host of prizes and luxurious auction items.

Local Piedmont Triad celebrity Chuck King served as Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer for the event and introduced Honorary Chairs Laura and Robert Green who surprised the crowd with a sultry interpretation of the Tango, highlighted in their selection Libertango (featuring Bellma Cespedes). Robert then introduced a special guest for the evening, Maestro Christopher Dragon, Music Director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, who exuberantly welcomed all in attendance, laying forth his vision for the GSO in the community.

Other highlights of the evening included:

  • Bolero, bossa and jazz selections made possible by the ultra-talented Latin Soul Trio;
  • Dynamic vocals provided by local favorites Jessica Mashburn and Evan Olson of AM rOdeO;
  • Lively and passionate performances of Brazilian dance by representatives of the Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Greensboro;
  • Tasty Brazilian delicacies including empanadas, churrasco stations featuring salmon, Cajun ribeye and jerk chicken, paella, bom bocado and truffles—made possible by the talented culinary staff of Printworks Bistro Restaurant who also served the guests with a smile in their Brazilian headdresses, reminiscent of the world-famous Carnival celebration;
  • Auction of live rendering by renowned artist Cindy Hawkes awarded to Sheila Phillips;
  • Raffle drawing for a natural diamond necklace set in 14K white gold with a retail value of $5000, donated by State St. Jewelers and presented to winner Kristie Smith;
  • Lancôme’s amazing Pink Carpet Room provided throughout the afternoon, helping to make Guild members and guests as beautiful as the lovely surroundings.
  • An array of vacation home stays, luxurious gifts and valuable services for the silent auction made possible by generous area merchants, vendors, and Symphony Guild members themselves.

A Notable Night was made possible by the valued partnerships with corporate sponsors, Proximity Hotel and Printworks Bistro Restaurant and Lancôme. The highly successful event benefits the music education efforts of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra throughout the Piedmont Triad!
